An essay is presented on the history of the labour movement in Manitoba and the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919. The author reflects on public support for labour unions and the right of civic employees to strike. Emphasis is given to suppression of the Strike and opposition to striking workers and labour radicalism from newspapers, the business community, and the federal government.
