- Authors
Greenhill, Pauline
- Abstract
The article focuses on a charivari which took place in Manitoba in 1909. On 9 November 1909, eight boys and men gathered outside the home of William McLaughlin Jr, just north of Brookdale, Manitoba. The people had congregated there to charivari him and his new bride, the former Ethel Burkell. The two had eloped four days earlier. Burkell's father did not approve. The situation clearly called for a charivari. Two days after the event, 18 year old charivarier Harry Bosnell died from a 22 calibre rifle bullet fired from the McLaughlin house. The Grand Jury depositions were taken in the Police Court at Neepawa on 24 November.
