- Abstract
The article discusses the traditional power symbols among the contemporary Mixtec elites, authorities and rulers of Mixteca Alta, Oaxaca state, Mexico, often referencing the pre-Hispanic, colonial and post-colonial periods. An overview of the customs and culture in the early 21st century Mixtec community called Yutenino in Santa María Cuquila, Mexico is provided.
