- Abstract
The article discusses the role of correspondence columns in the Scottish press in curating and providing commentary on working-class poetry during the second half of the 19th century. Particular focus is given to the Scottish press's influence in determining the subject matter and form of such poetry. Details on humorous poems which intentionally contained errors of spelling, grammar, and scansion are presented. Other topics discussed include satire, editorial advice, and weekly newspapers.
