- Abstract
The article discusses the work of the German Schupo (Schutzpolizei, German municipal police), part of the organization Ordnungspolizei (Orpo), as guards on deportation trains from Italy to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Topics include the failure of investigations to lead to the prosecution of Schupo members at the 1945 to 1949 Nuremberg Trials, letters by police guards admitting their knowledge of the killing of Jews at Auschwitz, and the testimony of officers from the organization regarding the treatment of Italian Jews.
