- Abstract
A recent article in Anaesthesia compared the McGrath videolaryngoscope with direct laryngoscopy for rapid sequence intubation in the operating theatre. The study found conflicting results, with some studies showing improved success with the McGrath videolaryngoscope and others indicating longer intubation times. The authors suggest that standardizing anesthesia induction and providing more detailed information on sedative drugs, pre-oxygenation techniques, and the use of cricoid force would be beneficial. They also highlight the need for analysis of severe adverse events and the importance of standardized training protocols for different laryngoscopes. Additionally, differences in tracheal tube preparation may impact success rates.
