- Title
IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN: LANGUAGE IN LAST WILLS AND TESTAMENTS.
- Authors
Sneddon, Karen F.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the genre and language of wills and testaments. It states that wills are one of the oldest forms of legal documents, since the time of the Egyptian Pharaohs. It mentions that wills require language to be substantively operative and accurate because any innocuous word change can modify the meaning of an inheritance. It adds that the lyrical title "Last Will and Testament" serves as the first characteristic of the genre of wills.
