- Abstract
The WGS84 Ellipsoid representation of the earth is an ellzpsoid of rotation in which the polar axis serves as the axis of rotation. A frequently used equation in missile defense modeling and simulation is N = a√1e2 sin2 (θG), where N is the radius of curvature in the prime vertical at some point P on the earth's suiface, a is the equatorial radius of the earth, θG is the geodetic latitude of P, and e is the eccentricity of the ellipse of rotation. This article provides a derivation of the equation.
