- Title
PAINTING THE MARGINS: TINA BLAU AND THE SPACES OF MODERNITY.
- Authors
Johnson, Julie M.
- Abstract
The article highlights the work and achievements of plein-air painter Tina Blau, particularly her success in setting a precedent for women artists with her own confidence and tenacity at a time when women's attire impeded their exploration of the great outdoors in Austria. It details how Blau endured rejection by her male contemporaries at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, her depictions of late 19th-century realities, and her attraction to the Dutch Masters.
