- Abstract
The article presents an essay about popular fronts in America, including "Life" magazine, Margaret Bourke-White and consumer realism. It offers a brief history of "Life" and discusses Henry Luce's editorial "The American Century." The essay outlines the parameters of the consumer and political intentions of Time Inc., focusing on Life magazine from 1936 to 1941. Life's realism increased the use of photographic images within journalism, after Margaret Bourke-White's photographs defined the aesthetic of the magazine.
