- Abstract
The present study investigated the emergence of conditional control over the construction of sentences in the active and passive voice in children. The children were trained to construct four pairs of sentences (an active and a passive for each pair) by overlapping words, followed by the establishment of conditional control by colors on this repertoire. Repeated tests of extension of conditional control over the construction of new sentences were followed. Finally, the maintenance of this performance was tested after 45 days of the end of the study. All children learned to construct the sentences under conditional control being necessary more exposure to passive sentences to reach learning criterion. In emergent performance tests, the number of correct constructions in the active voice (92,4%) was greater than in the passive (31%). In the maintenance test, participants correctly constructed 78,9% of the sentences in the active voice and 80,3% of the passive. Contrary to the results of previous studies, the participants showed maintenance of sentence construction performance in the active voice and performance improvement for the sentences in the passive voice, suggesting that the training of four pairs of sentences and repeating extension performance tests are sufficient conditions for the construction of the repertoire.
