- Abstract
The article discusses research on cardiac death as the major cause of mortality in B-thalassemia major (B-TM). The study evaluated 25 normal volunteers and 36 patients with B-TM with normal cardiac function through the resting and dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) at baseline and was performed again after 2 years. Conclusion of the study indicated that in addition to ferritin levels of patients with B-TM, the resting left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of less than 60% provides information on increased late mortality.
