- Abstract
The women have associated a number of diseases that can endanger their health. Indigenous and peasant communities have used medicinal plants to treat these diseases. However, this knowledge is in danger because of the current cultural changes. This article offer information on the uses of medicinal plants for the treatment of gynecological diseases in Leticia and Puerto Nariño, Amazonas. Were conducted semi-structured interviews to 26 key informants and walks to collect specimens. Were recorded 66 species belonging to 37 families, the most representative were Lamiaceae (8 spp.), Leguminosae (5 spp.), Malvaceae (5 spp.) and Rubiaceae (5 spp.). According to the Friedman index (I.F.), the most widely used species were Spondias mombin L (I.F. = 69), Maytenus laevis Reissek (I.F. = 50) and Uncaria tomentosa (Willd. ex Schult.) DF (I.F. = 46). The most common conditions were related with menstruation (23%), fertility (21%) and infections (19%). The primary sources of knowledge of the informants were their grandparents (31%) and parents (23%) and the plants were most commonly found in cultivated areas (45%) and the forests (15%). This information can be used to articulate traditional and modern medicine, promoting a holistic treatment of the women diseases, and even later in the vegetal material analysis to be used in the development of new drugs.
