- Abstract
With the changing course of time, the focus of fundamental course in speech communication has been shifted from public modes of communication to personal and informal mode of communication. Regardless of the specific approach, some assumptions lie with the teaching of interpersonal communication courses including one that assumes that there is a positive correlation between effective interpersonal communication skills and psychological well-being. This research paper identifies some prevalent problem areas among students from cultures different from the American middle class when they are confronted with the assumptions and requirements for effectively participating in the interpersonal communication classroom.
