- Abstract
This article examines the connection between vitiligo, a skin condition, and the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The study, conducted in Israel, followed a large group of patients with vitiligo and compared their risk of various cardiovascular conditions to a control group. The findings indicate that patients with vitiligo have a similar risk of heart attack and stroke compared to the control group, but a lower risk of peripheral vascular disease and pulmonary embolism. However, patients with vitiligo who do develop these cardiovascular conditions have a higher risk of all-cause mortality. The study suggests the need for further investigation into the relationship between vitiligo and cardiovascular diseases. The document also provides information on funding and potential conflicts of interest for the authors, which is important for library patrons to consider when evaluating the article.
