The trade literature at Winterthur is collected in many formats, including published trade catalogs, printed ephemera, drawings, manuscript account books, magazines and salesperson's samples related to a better understanding of America's rich heritage in early handicraft, production of goods and domestic life. The Winterthur's library was established in 1952 to guide students for the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture, on a graduate course awarded by the University of Delaware and for staff of Winterthur Museum which was set up by Henry Francis du Pont to showcase his collection of antiques made and used in America up to 1840. Over the years the library has become a center for advanced study serving large international scholarly community.
