- Title
Extrasolar planets: Secrets that only tides will tell.
- Authors
Hamilton, Douglas P.
- Abstract
The article offers information on the discovery and nature of extrasolar planets. It mentions that there are already 375 extrasolar planets that have been discovered to date and that for a planet orbiting a star the tides raised on a smaller object act swiftly to reduce its spin until its face is locked towards the star. It relates that the odds of finding a planet so close to the end of its life are low and relates that planet and stars do form together. It further affirms that the continuous monitoring of such planetary system are predicted to undergo a slower evolution.
