The article discusses the poem sequence "Zong!" by M. NourbeSe Philip, with particular attention paid to the use of narrative and Philip's assertion that the form of his poem is more like music than traditional poetry. The historical incidents which inspired the poem in which African slaves on the ship the Zong were thrown overboard while still alive are also described.
