A literary criticism is presented of the book "Independence Day," by Richard Ford. Particular focus is given to the presence of American pragmatic philosophy within the book, including the philosophy of the American thinker and professor Richard Rorty, the Transcendentalist philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson and the pragmatic philosopher John Dewey.
