- Abstract
A sulphated derivative of paramylon, a water-insoluble (1-3)-β-D-glucan from Euglena gracilis, inhibited the cytopathic effect of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) on cultured MT-4 cells as efficiently as dextran sulphate. A computer-assisted three-dimensional graphing technique revealed that paramylon sulphate and 3′-azido-2′, 3′-dideoxythymidine (AZT) synergistically inhibited HIV replication.
