- Abstract
Parque Posadas was the first large complex to be built in Uruguay. Its ten buildings were executed in the context of Housing Law No. 13728 and its promotion of private industry to boost construction and complement the public sector in the realization of housing solutions. The unusual scale in our environment, 2051 apartments, posed administrative, organizational and technological challenges. In turn, with praise and criticism, it gave way to new forms of neighborhood associations and new guidelines for building the city. In this paper, the idea of the big block or superblock is conceptualized as a type adjusted to the scale of these big sets, and it is orbited around cases of comparable scale. In any case, the unique characteristics of this project are detailed, its history -with a critical balance from the architectural community and its evolution in relation to other complexes, an aspect that could merit a new revision.
