- Title
WHAT HATH SHE WROUGHT? WOMAN'S RIGHTS AND THE NINETEENTH-CENTURY LYCEUM.
- Authors
Ray, Angela G.
- Abstract
The article considers the historical foundation for studies of the relationships between the midcentury lyceum lecture circuit and the organized movement for woman's rights in the U.S. There are several rhetorical scholars who have investigated gender rhetoric of the nineteenth century, including Karlyn Kohrs Campbell and Susan Zaeske. A study of the lyceum and woman's rights can illustrate the phenomenon of historical public speech that did not focus on political policy. A summary of lyceum's history is presented.
