- Abstract
Intercultural and bilingual indigenous school education is a fundamental social right recognized for Indigenous Peoples by the Federal Constitution of Brazil in 1988. Indigenous schools were created in 1999 to meet this constitutional demand, however, there are still gaps in respect for their own learning processes and in the use of mother tongues. These difficulties in implementing intercultural practices can be observed through the analysis of data from the School Census collected by INEP/MEC in 2022. From the information presented, it is possible to identify a few advances and the many contradictions present in indigenous schools Brazilians. However, initiatives dedicated to contributing to overcoming this scenario are flourishing, aimed at the intercultural training of indigenous teachers and the construction of new epistemic perspectives. The bibliographic-investigative methodological procedure is used.
