- Abstract
Geographical Indications (GIs) are related to the origin of a product. The city of MaragogipeBA is known for the production of smoked meat due to its differentiated process in the way of carrying out the stew. The objective of this work was to analyze the potential of smoked meat from Maragogipe-Bahia to become a Geographical Indication. For this, qualitative research was carried out with a case study, where the SEBRAE Potentiality Diagnosis Methodology was applied based on interviews. It was possible to verify the importance of the product for the region both from a cultural and economic point of view, the real possibilities of GI and the obstacles in relation to the sanitary conditions of production, which can be remedied with the operation of the factory that is in the process of construction . It is concluded that smoked meat from Maragogipe has potential for recognition of Geographical Indication according to this methodology.
