- Abstract
The article focuses on the symbolic aspect of sport champions in France during the 1960s. It studies newspapers and magazines in order to determine the social standing of a sport champion and analyzes how sports influenced the French population. Topics of discussion include the idealization of a champion, how the youth population was influenced by champions through magazines such as "Nous" and "Rallye Jeunesse," and the identity of a champion as maintained in periodicals such as "Salut les copains" (SLC) and "Mademoiselle Age Tendre" (MAT). Also discussed are the values of sport competitions and athletes as role models.
