- Abstract
The article compares the process by which the Local Churches was designated as a cult in the U.S. and the People's Republic of China and examines the consequences of this designation. The difference in process is derived from the distinct social and political systems found in these countries. The cult designation for the Local Churches in both cases provides insight into the intertwined relationship between globalization, religious development and the transnational movement of the group.
