- Abstract
Immediate implants insertion in the anterior maxilla is a topic widely debated nowadays. The success of the dental implant restoration depends on the accurate tridimensional positioning between the vestibular and palatal bone plates. There are many published studies on vestibular bone plate remodeling but very few on palatal bone plate thickness evluation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to radiologically investigate the thickness of the palatal bone plate. Fourty six CBCT scans were analyzed and palatal bone plate measurements were performed at 1 mm (D1), 3 mm (D2) and 5 mm (D3) apical from the alveolar ridge. The distance between the enamel-cement junction and the alveolar ridge (D4) was also measured. The results revealed average values for the palatal bone plate thickness of at least 1 mm at the level of all points considered. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a mandatory diagnostic tool for adequate documentation of the clinical cases and correct treatment planning.
