- Abstract
The hospital architectural space, especially the reception and the waiting area is, by its very nature, a sensitive and rather complex place. In Algeria, this space presents a panoply of societal, functional, spatial, environmental, visual and human problems. The question of user comfort, especially that of visual comfort, remains awkward. The objective of this work is to suggest a model of qualification of the degree of user visual comfort generated from ten selected physical parameters. These are obtained, on one hand by the characterization of the quality of the luminous atmosphere as it is the case of "the luminance / the contrast of luminances and the five indices of the bothersome glare (DGP, VCP, UGR, DGI and CGI) and on the other hand by the depiction of the visibility according to four properties of the isovists "surface, perimeter, occlusivity and compactness" obtained from the isovist's syntactic analysis. The study corpus includes nineteen scenes reflecting the reception and waiting areas of the emergency services, general surgery and internal medicine in three hospitals in Setif -Algeria. The main investigative tool is therefore a software simulation based on graphic and visual supports: surveyed plans and HDR photographs of the studied spaces, taken during the summer period. The results show that space is the determining factor that conditions the visual comfort of the users and influences their degree of satisfaction, as they confirm that the proposed model has proved that the space and its configuration present the raw material which must be mastered and controlled upstream to control the lighting environment and visibility. Finally, this experimental model combining the use of both the techniques and analyses of the Space syntax theory and the advantages of HDR photographs is a tool to be used by researchers to be applied to other architectural spaces.
