- Abstract
A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology describes a new assay for the serological diagnosis of anti-p200 pemphigoid, a rare autoimmune blistering dermatosis. The assay uses an indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) test based on Biochip™ technology, which includes recombinant laminin β4 (lamβ4) subunit-expressing cells. The test was validated using serum samples from patients with anti-p200 pemphigoid, as well as samples from patients with other pemphigoid disorders and healthy blood donors. The results showed that the lamβ4-specific IIF test is highly sensitive and specific, allowing for a standardized diagnosis of anti-p200 pemphigoid and differentiation from other autoimmune blistering disorders. The assay may also be useful in guiding treatment decisions during the course of the disease.
