- Abstract
The article focuses on the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs grant which is aimed at promoting technological literacy and expose students to academic and career paths within the disciplines related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in the U.S. It explores how the program came into existence which provided some African American students the opportunity to learn about technology and engineering in a STEM-related system. It mentions that the grant is a national program funded by the Department of Education. It notes that there is a major need for outreach programs for minorities and females in STEM education according to research. It also provides details of the program design and the process of designing the STEM disciplines.
