- Abstract
The article focuses on the portrayal of heroes in the times of imperialism, which shows the determination to strengthen the empire. It looks at the heroes of the empire namely, Navy officer Sir John Franklin and physician John Rae who were part of the Arctic expedition. It also discusses "Fatal Passage" by author Ken McGoogan, "A Discovery of Strangers" by author Rudy Wiebe, and "Wanting" by author Richard Flanagan.
