- Abstract
Through the cases of two journalists who worked at the newspaper Le Progrès du Saguenay as editors and directors between 1918 and 1943, the article examines the strategies that guide the use and non-use of fictitious signatures in the world of the press. These strategies may relate to individual aims, editorial issues for a newspaper in a peripheral region seeking to enhance its image and sales, or propaganda of the Church since Le Progrès defines itself as a catholic newspaper. The chosen journalists, one a priest and the other a layman, have consequently distinct journalistic career goals and are not subject to the same professional constraints, which is reflected in their use of invented signatures.
