- Title
Increased awareness, early diagnosis key to treating glaucoma in Africa.
- Abstract
The article reports that increasing knowledge and treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma can help overcome the challenges involved in treating the disease in Africa, according to clinician A. O. Ashaye. Some of these challenges, Ashaye notes, include few resources spent on patient care and limited health care resources. Ashaye claims that 22% of the glaucoma patients at the clinic where she works were blind in both eyes when they came to the clinic. She emphasizes the importance of more awareness of the disease, as well as its early diagnosis.
