- Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to assess the RF-induced heating effect near the dental implants "in vitro" during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 3T. The measurements were performed maintaining the real life conditions in different relevant clinical configurations. The choice of measurement points location was made after numerical simulation of the configurations using SEMCAD X. The locations with the highest SAR values obtained from the simulations were used as measurement points. The most significant increase in SAR values was the extremity of the implant or accessory and the extent of it depended on the size, shape and positioning in the phantom. Temperature elevation was less than 1°C in all studied configurations confirming that these implants do not present a risk from RF overheating during an MRI examination at 3 Tesla.
