- Abstract
An essay is presented on Prohibition in early twentieth century Poinsett County, Arkansas, comparing the towns of Osceola and Marked Tree. It examines African American populations and comments on race relations. The author also considers the demographic factor of women's support for temperance. She characterizes Marked Tree as a frontier town, reflecting on its lumber and sawmilling industries.
