- Abstract
The article examines the influence of Egypt on English architecture. It presents several factors which favoured the choice of the Egyptian style by engineers and certain groundbreaking architects such as battered walls were more economical than Classical or Gothic alternatives particularly for bridges. It mentions various examples of Egyptian architecture including the Temple Mills in Leeds, England, the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the 1 Greek Street.
