- Title
VARANUS FLAVESCENS.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the distribution and reproduction of Varanus flavescens in Southern Asia. The species can be found in floodplains of Ganges, Indus and Brahmaputra rivers in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Northern India, Myanmar and Nepal. It was categorized as endangered but there are no available information on its population in Bangladesh. Based on the observation on a breeding pair found in Chandpur Village, India, the male mates with a female for nearly 15 minutes. Researcher G. Visser reported that the courtship and mating in the lizard happen in June and July. Compared to other Varanus species, Varanus flavescens did not bite each other during courtship.
