- Abstract
In 2002 M. L. Gershteyn and L. I. Gershteyn reported experimental evidence that the constant universal gravitation, G, varied significantly (0.54%) with the orientation of the relative supporting masses to the system of fixed stars. The explanation of this phenomenon is analyzed in this work keeping in mind the derivative terms of the torques taking place due to the nearby universe (Earth, moon, planets, and sun) that act upon the torsion pendulum. We found a variation of the period of 0.019%, for θ = 0.027 rad, and of 0.010% for θ = 0.054 rad, leading to a variation from the value near G to the one reported by Gershteyn.
