- Authors
Stein, Marc
- Abstract
The article focuses on the stand of the Supreme Court on the sexual revolution in the U.S. The author presents highlights of the controversial Supreme Court decisions which include "Griswold v. Connecticut," "Roe v. Wade." and "Fanny Hill v. Massachusetts." The problems attributed with the conventional view of the Court rulings on such cases suggest that it depends on highly selective readings of the Court's liberalizing rulings and that it requires that one should ignore, dismiss, or set aside profoundly conservative decisions. Significantly, the primary basis for the claim that the Court developed a doctrine of heteronormative supremacy in the late 1960's and early 1970's is the texts of the decisions themselves. The Court also had conservative rulings that make the opposition to sexual freedom and sexual equality.
