- Abstract
An essay is presented on French author Anne-Thérèse de Marguenat de Courcelles (Madame de Lambert) and feminism during the Enlightenment. Emphasis is given to the idea of honnêteté and Lambert's use of a gendered sensibility as an aristocratic women in an elite salon society. The article also considers how Cartesianism misrepresents the feminine mind in relation to the gender politics of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries.
