BEING HIGH IN MIDDLE PARK.
- Authors
Kornfeld, Marcel
- Abstract
The article discusses prehistoric and Paleoindian occupation of Colorado's high-altitude Middle Park archaeological site, located in the Rocky Mountains. The author begins by explaining human adaptation to high-altitude environments, noting the dangers of hypoxia. He goes on to explain cultural developments in Colorado's high-altitudes, noting decreased residential mobility, increased food consumption, and the development of weather-appropriate Paleoindian clothing, all evidenced by excavations of the Middle Park area. The author emphasizes the importance of the work of geoarchaeologist James Benedict to his own research.
