- Abstract
The article discusses the history of leprosy, with a focus on methods for the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of the disease in the ancient and modern world. Topics include the prevention of communicable diseases in ancient medicine; the study of paleopathology in determining the medical conditions for lepers; medical and religious sources on the treatment of leprosy; and the occurrence of leprosy throughout history. The social and religious aspects of the disease are also discussed, as it was thought to reflect on the moral deficiency of the person suffering form leprosy.
