- Abstract
The article discusses fears of Spanish subversion and slave revolts in Territorial Louisiana. Topics include U.S. relations with Spain in relation to people of African descent in Louisiana, the impact of lenient Spanish laws regarding slavery on Louisiana, and fears of slave revolts in relation to slave smuggling from the Caribbean to Louisiana. The influence of the Roman Catholic Church in Louisiana is noted.
