- Abstract
The article examines whether pouch polyps display duodenal or colonic adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) mutational spectra, and whether a change in tissue milieu alters the expected pattern of APC mutation. Overall, the combined alleles left two to three 20-amino acid beta-catenin-binding/degradation repeats in 40 of 51 polyps with an identified second hit. Tissue environment seems to influence the position of the second hit in pouch polyps and the mutations resemble those of large bowel polyps.
