- Abstract
The article presents the results of a systematic review aimed investigating the relationship between the presence of congenital heart disease and neurodevelopmental disorders in the child population. The sample unit was composed of 36 investigations, identified in the PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Refseek databases, in the observation window of the last five years (2019 - 2022), of publications in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. The data processing is carried out using the PRISMA methodology. The results indicate that the alterations in neurological development are related to biological phenomena, such as genetic anomalies (malformations), cardiac difficulties, and oxygenation deficit in the brain during pregnancy due to cardiopulmonary arrests, affecting learning capacities. and optimal family and social development throughout life. Follow-up and personalized care are required in each particular case, combining medical treatments with psychosocial care and appropriate educational strategies to minimize the adverse consequences of heart conditions.
