- Abstract
The article focuses on a study which evaluates the effect of day of the way on the odds of being discharged alive from an intensive care unit (ICU). It notes that the length of stay in the ICU is a complex variable with several contributing factors, such as primary diagnosis, comorbidities and adverse events, including health care-acquired infection. It cites that the findings demonstrate a frightening pattern of discharge from an ICU ward, most likely caused by a complex web of specialist availability and requests of patients to be home for the weekend.
