- Title
Innate immunity: Help from 'friendly' bacteria.
- Authors
David, Rachel
- Abstract
The article discusses a research being done on commensal gut bacteria. It references the study "Gut commensal bacteria direct a protective immune response against Toxoplasma gondii," by Benson A. and colleagues in the 2009 issue of "Cell Host Microbe." It cites that being an adjuvant to induce immunity to T. gondii is another function of the commensal gut bacteria. It suggests that commensal gut bacteria stimulate Toll-like receptors (TLRs) of dendritic cells (DCs) to trigger immune responses.
