- Abstract
This essay is an excerpt from an extensive set of notebooks written by the author. The author was a former Poet-in-Residence at the Center for Writers, University of Southern Mississippi. After leaving Southern in a highly publicized resignation—an event during which he stood on the steps of the English Building and smashed all of his many awards in protest of the university president at that time—the author called several places home before settling finally in Oxford, Mississippi. As a survivor of cancer, today he lives a simple life, spending most of his time observing with a far-ranging eye and writing down impressions of what he observes.
