- Title
HOW WELL IS RELIGIOUS FREEDOM PROTECTED UNDER A BILL OF RIGHTS? REFLECTIONS FROM NEW ZEALAND.
- Authors
AHDAR, REX TAUATI
- Abstract
The article discusses the previous opposition to the New Zealand Bill of Rights Act (NZBORA) and the status of religious freedom in New Zealand. It explains that Christians are opposed to the proposal because of its transfer of power to an unsympathetic judiciary and the downgrading of Christianity. It states that the calm religious landscape was achieved when NZBORA lost its force as a supreme law but it is about to change in the coming years because of the growth in non-Christian faith and the increasing secularization of the New Zealand society.
