- Abstract
After the death of Józef Piłsudski, General Edward Rydz-Śmigły quickly rose in the hierarchy of power, becoming the leading personality of the Second Polish Republic. The pre-war Polish Radio contributed significantly to this dizzying career. This article is an attempt to reconstruct the image of Rydz-Śmigły shaped by the above-mentioned media, which has not been the subject of separate historical studies so far. The presented text focuses on the activities of the radio, which were intended to build the popularity and strong political position of the Inspector General of the Armed Forces, both in the society and within the ruling camp of Piłsudski. The aim of the research is to analyse the forms and content of radio broadcasts concerning Rydz-Śmigły, which formed a specific record of his career for the years 1935–1939. Due to the fact that the documentation (including recordings) produced by the pre-war Polish Radio was almost entirely destroyed by the German occupant, the basis of the submitted research are indirect sources. Among them, the weekly "Antena" is of key importance. The journal was the organ of the Polish Radio, which allows us to consider that it is the most authoritative publication in matters of programme policy, content and ideological message of the broadcasts.
